Last term, pupils in Reception class learnt how to make their own Green Screen photos and videos. To fit in with their topic ‘All About Themselves’ they first found and saved an image on Safari to use as their backdrop. They then worked in pairs using the iPad app Green Screen by DoInk to capture either a photo or video in front of the green backdrop. They then superimposed their saved background image to make it appear as if they were really there! View their fantastic creations below …
As part of their topic about themselves, pupils in Reception class made a game about their favourite TV shows and characters. To do this, they used the iPad app TinyTap. Click here if you would like to play their game. Don’t forget to leave a comment to let them know what you think of it.
Today children from Reception to Year 6 walked to St. Alphonsus RC Church to celebrate Holy Mass on the feast day of the Ascension of the Lord. It is a Catholic Holy Day of Obligation when the faithful are expected to attend Holy Mass.
In Reception we learned how Jesus took His disciples to the Mount of Olives near Bethany to say goodbye. He told them that He had to go back to His Father and sit at His right hand. The disciples were sad and worried but Jesus told them to wait for the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem. He instructed the disciples to baptise others and teach them how to live a good life loving God and showing His love to others (Father Pat reminded us that we must continue to teach those that do not know our God’s love by showing them how we live our faith). As the disciples were looking up, two men dressed in white talked to them. They told the disciples that one day Jesus would return the same way that He left.
HAPPY Feast Day
At Our Lady’s RC Primary School we crowned Mary, the Queen of May.
It is a Roman Catholic tradition to honour the Virgin Mary as ‘Queen of the May’ during the month of May.
Each class had a prepared reading and a Marian hymn which they presented to Mary to honour her. Two groups of children sang in Latin, whilst one class sang a hymn in Polish. The singing was beautiful, it must have made Mary very happy.
Mrs Wasowska kindly made a crown of real flowers which was placed on the statue of Mary.
The children loved the occasion and look forward to the celebration each year.
Today was an opportunity to celebrate Our Lady and thank her for her many blessings on our school.
