Marian Procession 2018

On Saturday morning 6th October by approximately 10 am, 18 children and their parents from Our Lady’s RC Primary School assembled in St Edward’s RC Church for the Marian Procession. Many children and adults decided to miss other activities to go to the procession instead. Very small children in buggies attended too with their families.  This showed real love for Mary and commitment from these children and their families. What wonderful role models for the rest of the school!

Bishop Arnold talked to us in church and blessed our rosaries. The children and adults from the different schools and parishes were excited. Even though the forecast was rain, it did not put off the faithful.

This year Our Lady’s RC School had the honour of holding the ribbons on the smaller Our Lady statue. The children took it in turns to proudly hold the ribbons during the procession. As we walked in procession we said the Holy Rosary and sang hymns in honour of Our Lady.

We finished off in Platt Fields Park were we had special prayers for Mary with readers from the different schools. Bishop Arnold concluded the liturgy with a special blessing for all those who attended. We had a fantastic day!

The children were invited to comment about their experience.

“I like the Marian Procession because it is fun and the flowers for Mary are beautiful. I also like it because I like the music and the band. I like seeing the balloons at the very end and throwing pretty petals. It makes me happy. I would love to go again in my new school and I really think that you should go!” Taeyana

“I like to go to the Marian Procession because it is a time to worship Mary and a time to pray. It is something that you can look forward to every year. This year was special because we were holding the ribbons on the little Mary statue and I was holding a red flag at the front. The flag represented the Holy Spirit. I really liked the music too.” Martyna

“I like going to the Marian Procession because it is a beautiful procession and lots of fun. This year was my last year at Our Lady’s before high school, so I really wanted to go. We were doing a special job, it was holding ribbons from the smaller Mary statue. I hope I can go again. It made me feel proud that I’m Catholic when all the people were looking at us.” Natalia

I like going because it is a great time to look back at the year and all that Mary has done for you and others in your community. This year is my last year and it was great to hold the ribbons from the statue. I recommend going, it is great! I hope that I can go again in my high school. It was really good to have Mary beside me. I feel proud that I am a Catholic. Oliwia

“It was the first time I went to the Marian procession. I was so excited! We had to miss Polish school so that I could go. I really enjoyed holding the ribbons. I felt proud. Wiktoria

I enjoyed the Marian procession because we got the opportunity to hold the ribbons on the smaller statue of Mary. I also liked the beautiful flowers around Mary, there were different flowers and not just roses. I had fun walking in the procession from St. Edward’s RC Church to Platt Fields Park. Ruvimbo

I like going to the Marian Procession because it is a chance to profess our faith. We also pray the rosary as we walk. I like throwing the petals to honour Mary. I missed my tap and ballet dancing classes but it was a good cause. Isabel
